B1. Discourse processes in shift handover sessions of medical care units.
This project plans two studies: in the first, a sample of nurses from 40 care units will be interviewed about the organisation of their units and the role of handover in their everyday work routine. In the second, shift handover will be observed and videotaped in 4 care units over five consecutive days.
Data will be analysed according to a contrastive case study procedure to relate discourse processes in sessions, their functions and the task environment of the unit.
Funding requested through research module (IPTO, Neuchatel).
Dissertation project starts in Winter 2007.
