The topic of my PhD thesis is Physician affective communication skills and patient health outcomes.
This thesis seeks to shed light on the process of verbal and nonverbal communication of emotions between physicians and patients.
Physician affective communication skills have been shown to positively influence patient's satisfaction with healthcare and patient's health status among other patients' outcomes.
The focus of this project will be on physician self-accuracy, defined as the ability to be aware of patient s own emotional cues and to correctly recall patient s own verbal and nonverbal behavior.
The research question being addressed is whether physician self-accuracy varies according to different patient's communication styles and whether physician self-accuracy significantly affects patient's outcomes, like e.g., health status, adherence to therapy, and appointment keeping.
